Hair Loss Surgery

Hair loss surgery is a process that’s been going on for over 40 years and evolving as well. Hair replacement surgery has seen major innovations and refinements in those 40 years and different forms of the surgery have emerged. Hair loss happens naturally to everyone, with most people, shedding anywhere between 50 to 150 hairs each  This shed hair is replaced by new growth, which happens in the same spot where the other hair fell out. New hair grows about half an inch a month.

Over time, this replacement can slow down and baldness, due to genetics, may appear. Baldness happens when you lose more hair than you grow. Hair thinning is also often seen, when the new hair that grows back thinner and more fragile than the hair it replaced.

There are many reasons for hair loss, and both sexes suffer from it, but diagnosis is easy and treatments are readily available. Hair loss is genetic, and this is the most common reason for hair loss, especially among men. There are other reasons for hair loss that don’t equate to genetics, and these include regular use of certain medication such as antihypertensive drugs, chemotherapy, untreated scalp infections and medical conditions such as diabetes.

With such issues plaguing people with beautiful hair, hair loss surgery kicks in as a potential savior with the capability to bring back receding hair and retain that youthful look. The prospect of growing and replacing lost hair will have anyone with a receding hairline rushing to get in line. Unfortunately, not everyone who claims to have the magical formula is speaking the truth. There are hundreds of quacks out there just waiting to seize your money should they get a chance to sway you. Therefore, you need to be very careful about who you get your information from and who you trust with your health, because trusting the wrong person could end up jeopardizing your health.

A hair transplant treatment is a permanent treatment, which restores the lost hair using modern processes such as grafting, micro grafting and mini grafting. After surgeons fully understood the dynamics of hair growth, this procedure became quite accurate and simplified. All that’s required is an experienced surgeon to conduct the operation. There are a few ways of doing the operation.

Firstly, there is single hair grafting. This is basically the process where the surgeon implants tiny thin hair onto the edges of the head to try and form the hairline. These hairs are supposed to form that gradual increase in density towards the back of the head. It is a delicate process, which requires skill and ingenuity.

Micro grafting is another process where the surgeon inserts two or three hairs behind the single hair grafts.

Mini grafts are the last of the grafting process and are placed behind the micros, where they help maximize the density.

Due to the advancements in technology and science, this process has become very simple and painless. Patients that may have suffered discomforts during the earlier stages when it was still being tested would be amazed by the change. Patients rarely complain about side effects, which are generally slight discomforts, headaches or itching at the spot operated on; but again, these things rarely happen.

A normal hair loss surgery will take about 2 to 6 hours, depending on the uniqueness of the transplant or how much hair needs to be replaced. In most cases people have these surgeries in the morning and go back to work in the afternoon. That is how simple of an operation it has become; but then again, it will depend on who does the operation, how credible they are and how much experience they have had. All these factors should be considered before attempting hair surgery.
